Pineapple Plant

Kitchen Flavours and A Beautiful Mess guessed right! My new plant is a pineapple plant, and I got it from IKEA......I know, very unexpected! But since the weather is getting chilly, the pineapple is inside the house, and I'm assuming it will wither away very soon.

Mr. P camoflauging himself

actual pineapples from the Dole Plantation, Hawaii

Do you think my pineapple wil grow bigger? The "directions" on the pot said that the pineapple is not edible...are there non-edible pineapples?

Behind the Seeds Tour

@ Epcot!

Epcot has a whole greenhouse that produces veggies and fish for the Disney restaurants. If you have visited, you may have taken the boat ride (that's what we did last time) but this time we paid $16 to go behind the seeds! Totally worth it!

This is how they shape their mickey mouse veggies. Put it in that little plastic case and let it grow ears.

Our guide explaining to us that the tomato plant/tree (behind) produced a load of tomatoes.

cotton- I don't know what they would use this for. Maybe pillows and blankets for the resort? I think she said something about using it for cooking....

They also have fish and alligators.

Bananas!
Tea garden
Hidden Mickey...I love this place! I wish I worked here~

Things I found during my walk...

I've been walking a lot these days, and these are some stuff I found:
Are these berries edible? I wanted to try it but I also didn't want to die.

Beautiful yet funky (look at the perforated leaves!) flowers I found in someones garden.

groundhog!

Upside Down Plants

There was an article in the New York Times of growing plants upside down to avoid pests...I think it's genius and wondering if I should convert as well...

Avocado Seed

We have been eating guacamole every night and I wanted to make use of the avocado seeds. So, I decided to plant them....in soil (It was late and I didn't want to turn on my computer and search how to plant an avocado seed). The way you're supposed to do it is like this:

Edible Tropicals knows the real deal

But I had no toothpicks and was too lazy to go get it, so I made my own device out of water bottles.
I turned the bottle around and rested the seed on the mouthpiece and ta-da! it actually works. However, I'm not sure if you're suppose to actually poke it to make it sprout, so all you experts, let me know!

plant & corn

I did the second repot of my tomato plants, and I think they are ready to go outside. It has fuzz on the stems and is growing its third and fourth leaf!

And another excitement for the day:

I am totally in love with this sweet corn. I can eat two in one sitting (and then when I stand up I realize how full I am and start to regret...)

Tomato Plants

Remember my tomato plant I started growing a couple weeks ago? They grew quite a bit, so I had to repot them:
The one on the upper right is my cilantro plant, still going strong. The first repot was a disaster since I was too lazy to go buy soil, so I used "dirt" in my backyard, and I found out that I'm supposed to use good soil...but the plants survived!

So I went to Lowe's yesterday and finally bought some good soil, and did my second repot yesterday.
I'll keep you updated!

Earth Day!

Since today is earth day, I thought I would write a post on how to live greener and healthier. I was doing some research online, and came across some interesting "things" you can do, or stop doing. I'm going to keep it simple and list 10 things that I actually do!

1. Keep your car and trunk empty of unncessary heavy items and save gas

2. Use mon-toxic cleaning products (baking soda, vinegar, lemon)

3. Wash in full loads and air dry clothes

4. Dress in layers and save heating (then I can get a pretty sweater with the money I save)

5. Go paperless on your bank statements

6. Eat foods that are in season

7. Buy a laptop instead of a desktop

8. Recycle...everything

9. Buy what you need, not what you want

10. Grow your own vegetables

like this! I'm a beginner so I started off with a starter kit.

it's starting to grow!

Basil

I bought a hydroponically grown basil at the supermarket, but didn't know what to do...so I dunk it in a cup of water.

Cilantro

I'm growing a cilantro (or coriander) plant, and I have to admit that it comes in very handy when cooking. I just rinse and chop them into my thai dish or mexican salsa, guacamole and wa-la! magic. I heard somewhere that when you eat cilantro and then sweat, the mosquitos won't bother you because they hate the smell. Believe it or Not!
